In terms of style, the manuscript relates closely to the Beatrice Psalter, as the illuminator chose the Ferrara-type filigree as border filling and the title-page initials have a similar Northern Italian basic character. For the figures of the title-page, however, the model of the illuminator was certainly the famous Bible made for the prince of Urbino, Federico da Montefeltro. The works on that manuscript were supervised by his master Francesco di Antonio del Chierico, and Francesco Rosselli himself also took part in the project (BAV, Urb. Lat. 1‒2). In the medallions we can see the process of the Creation, the first man and woman and the story of Cain and Abel.
Queen Beatrice’s coat of arms reveals that the volume was made for her. The quarter with the red lion on silver background places the codex into the same group as Rosselli’s other works and the Matthias Gradual. (Edina Zsupán)
